Learning to love Windows 8’s new shell

I’ve been using Windows 8 as my primary machine’s OS for a few weeks now, and much to my surprise I’m discovering that I’m preferring the new Start screen over the old Start menu. In particular, the Start screen allows me to have more control over the shortcuts and how they’re organized. I do have some minor gripes about the default behavior (it puts the shortcuts installed by a newly installed app on the Start screen by default), but it’s manageable; it’s a small chore to click all of the ones you don’t want and click “unpin.”
